    What is penetration testing?

    Penetration testing (also called pen testing or a pentest) is a controlled, authorized attack on your own systems, performed by a certified security specialist. The tester uses the same techniques as a real attacker: probing your applications, networks, and APIs for vulnerabilities, chaining weaknesses together, and attempting to reach data or systems they should not be able to touch. The difference is that everything happens with your permission, inside an agreed scope, and every finding is documented so you can fix it.

    A penetration test is not a vulnerability scan. Scanners match known signatures and stop there. A human tester finds business logic flaws, broken access control, and chained attack paths that no scanner detects, and then proves the impact with real exploitation evidence.
